Royals on repeat: It was déjà vu when Princess Amalia of the Netherlands wore the same dress as Fergie, but that's not the only time royal women have opted for the same outfits

Princess Amalia of the Netherlands’s arrival at the opening of the Dutch parliament in The Hague this month stood out for one glaring reason.

The 20-year-old’s Safiyaa Sarita dress had been previously worn by Sarah, Duchess of York, less than two weeks earlier at an event in Gothenburg, Sweden.

But this snap moment was far from the first case of royal déjà vu.

Catherine, Princess of Wales, and Queen Mary of Denmark have worn the same dresses by Jenny Packham and Beulah on multiple occasions. 

And Meghan Markle and Queen Letizia of Spain wore identical Boss leather skirts one day apart in 2019.  

So, read on below to see the times that royal fashion senses have unexpectedly aligned.

Less than two weeks later, Princess Amalia of the Netherlands arrived at the opening of the Dutch parliament in The Hague, wearing the very same dress.

She elevated the look with metallic gold accessories, including a Jacquemus clutch and Stuart Weitzman sandals.

Beatrice selected the £1,350 floral frock, featuring a coral hibiscus print, for the second day of Royal Ascot. 

She teamed it with a matching embellished satin clutch and heels by Roger Vivier, along with a Juliette Botterill blossom headband.

Sophie had previously debuted the dress at the Order of the Garter service in Windsor, accessorising with simpler pieces: a Strathberry bag and Prada pumps.

Notably, she had removed the crystal embellishment from the waist belt.

Emilia Wickstead Dionne dress, £1,395

It’s not surprising that Beatrice repeated the design for the Royal Family’s Easter Sunday Service at St George’s Chapel in Windsor last year.

ME+EM Shadow Berry print dress, £295

Zara Tindall first wore ME+EM’s popular Shadow Print dress at the Grand Prix in May.

She repeated the demure mid-length design, costing £295, for an outing to Wimbledon with her husband, Mike. 

To complete her look, Zara draped a smart blazer by The Fold across her shoulders, adding Saint Laurent espadrille wedges and an Anya Hindmarch bag.

The day before, Queen Mary of Denmark was seen wearing the same sought-after dress. 

The cut-out detailing and well-placed panelling proved effortlessly flattering on the royal. 

She paired the design with a Canopy Bay panama hat and Tod’s wedges upon arriving at her summer residence, Gråsten Castle.

And that wasn’t the first time that Zara and Mary have worn identical dresses by this Australian designer.

For the Platinum Jubilee Pageant in London in 2022, Zara chose the £740 Honour  broderie anglaise midi dress.

Mary picked the same dress, featuring a belted waist ant voluminous sleeves, when she attended Princess Ingrid Alexandra’s confirmation in August 2019.

Beulah London Ahana dress, £795

For the service of thanksgiving for the Queen at St Paul’s Cathedral during the monarch’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June 2022, Princess Beatrice chose the sky blue Ahana dress by Beulah London. For The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Service of Thanksgiving in 2022, she chose the beautiful sky blue version, teaming it with a playful Wifey For Lifey clutch by Sophia Webster and a Juliette Millinery hat.

Sophie Winkleman, wife to Lord Fredrick Windsor, wore the same dress in bright fuchsia to the service.

She complemented her outfit with Christian Louboutin satin heels and an Aspinal of London Mayfair Midi bag.

Isabella, who is third in line to the Danish throne, accessorised the Max Mara three-piece with a diamond and pearl brooch. 

It was a gift from her grandmother, Queen Margrethe, on her Christening day in 2007 and once belonged to Queen Alexandrine.

Isabella also borrowed two ‘Pacific’ rings by Dulong Fine Jewellery from her mother’s collection.

Three years later, Princess Sofia of Sweden wore the same dress, styled with a sash and broaches, for a State Banquet in honour of South Korea’s presidential couple at the Royal Palace in Stockholm, South Korea.
